Demirdoven is managing partner of IAPA member firm MED YMM ve Bagimsiz Denetim, based in Istanbul, Turkey. The firm has been an IAPA member for five years.
Demirdoven was appointed to the IAPA EMEA board in May 2015, and elected as chairman of the region in March 2017. He has now stepped down from this position in order to take up the role of global CEO.
For the past 18 months IAPA global chairman Martin Clapson has been acting CEO of IAPA. Clapson took on the role when a collapsed merger between IAPA and fellow association Allinial Global collapsed, leading to the departure of 17 firms from IAPA to Allinial and the then CEO Stephen Hamlet stepping down. Clapson’s predecessor as chair, Jan Huygens also stepped down at this point due to ill health.
Explaining the long gap between Hamlet’s departure and a full time replacement being recruited as CEO, Clapson told the IAB in February 2018: “I think it’s unfair for us to recruit a CEO when so much transitional change is happening. We have decided to get through this difficult period and stabilise first. We want to get the right person who understands the concept of a membership association, the accounting profession and the legal profession, and the ethos of IAPA.”
Commenting on his appointment, Demirdoven said: “Having been an IAPA Board member for three years, I really do comprehend and appreciate the size and importance of the organisation in the global business arena, and fully appreciate the needs of the organisation, the members and their clients. I have already spent a lot of quality time with EMEA members, understanding what they want and helping them increase business opportunities. Now, I am delighted to be able to do this on a global level and I greatly look forward to using my international business experience, vision and network to strengthen and grow our professional business relationships worldwide to achieve further success.”
