UK-based accountancy firm Carpenter Box is set to merge with  local peer Clark Brownscombe to bolster its office network into East Sussex.

The deal forms a key part of Carpenter Box’s ongoing expansion strategy. It currently serves a growing client base from offices in Brighton, Chichester, Crawley, London, Portsmouth and Worthing,.

The merger will result in Clark Brownscombe continuing its operations from its current Lewes office under the Carpenter Box branding later this year.

The transition will also involve the elevation of Clark Brownscombe’s directors, Robert Scrivins and Vicky Anderson, to partner positions at Carpenter Box.

Additionally, six staff members from Clark Brownscombe will join the ranks of Carpenter Box.

Scrivins said: “This merger is a significant milestone in our journey. We currently have expertise in business, charity and individual accounting and taxation matters and by joining with Carpenter Box, we will unlock additional resources and services that will directly benefit our clients through access to specialist knowledge.”

As a member of the Sumer Group of regional accountancy practices, Carpenter Box has a team of chartered accountants, tax specialists, and business advisers dedicated to supporting businesses and entrepreneurs.

With a partnership of 23 and a workforce exceeding 250, the firm provides a suite of services aimed at fostering profitable, sustainable, and tax-efficient business practices across the south east and in London.

Carpenter Box managing partner Alan Edwards said: “I’m thrilled to announce this merger with Clark Brownscombe and delighted to welcome the firm into the Carpenter Box team. They are a perfect fit for our growth strategy, helping us to expand into East Sussex with a Lewes office.

“Together, we bring nearly 200 years of combined experience in tax planning, advisory services and financial planning and share the same customer service ethos.”

Since its inception in 1923, Carpenter Box has evolved to offer services to both local and international clients.

In May 2023, Carpenter Box celebrated its 100-year legacy with a special event at its Worthing head office, attended by Sussex MPs and the Mayor of Worthing.
