RSM UK has appointed three new leaders from within the company to head and expand its key tax service lines.

Helen Relf has been appointed to lead Private Client Services, overseeing a team of more than 200 tax professionals.

Relf joined RSM nearly 15 years ago as a tax director and became a partner in 2015. Her practice focuses on advising ultra-high-net-worth individuals, including private business owners, entrepreneurs and management teams.

Rowena Cliffton, who joined the firm in 2016 and became a partner three years later, will now head the Indirect Tax team.

Her expertise lies in advising businesses, particularly in the energy, defence, aerospace, and manufacturing sectors, on a range of international indirect tax issues.

Cliffton’s focus areas include valued added tax (VAT) function effectiveness, tax governance, VAT technology tools, and compliance processes.

Martin Cooper has taken on the role of Head of Employer Solutions. His remit includes employment tax, global employer solutions, and share plans and reward.

His client base spans from private equity-backed businesses and publicly listed companies to high-growth and family-owned enterprises.

Cooper’s expertise encompasses tax-advantaged arrangements, growth shares, and employee ownership trusts, as well as advising remuneration committees on directors’ remuneration strategies.

RSM UK tax head Ali Sapsford said: “I’m thrilled to see Rowena, Martin and Helen take the reins to lead our tax teams through this next phase of growth, and I’m confident that our tax offering to clients will continue to be enhanced under their watch.

“I’d also like to say a big thank you to the outgoing tax heads – Gary Heynes, Anne-Marie Welch and Ian Carpenter – who have been fantastic leaders and role models for their teams and who will each continue to play essential senior roles as tax partners at RSM.”

In addition, RSM UK has promoted Elaine Shiels and Anthony Cox as the new regional heads of tax for the Midlands and the North, respectively.

James Morris will continue his role as the leader of the RSM corporate tax team.

The firm has also recently promoted 11 new partners, including corporate tax specialist Chris Alderman and VAT compliance expert Joost Willemsen, to support its organic growth and corporate objectives.
