RMT Accountants & Business Advisors has appointed Stephen Slater as its new managing director, effective in the summer this year (2025).

The appointment comes as the UK-based firm, part of the Sumer Group, continues to implement its growth strategy.

Slater, who currently oversees commercial services at RMT, will succeed Mike Pott.

Both Slater and Pott have been with the firm for more than two decades, joining in 1998 and 2002, respectively.

Slater said: “Mike’s expertise, dedication and commitment to excellence in leading the management team has been central to RMT’s transformation into the modern, forward-thinking advisory firm it is today.

“He will continue to work as an integral part of our hands-on executive team over the coming months to help deliver a smooth transition into our new management structure.

“We have a detailed growth strategy in place which will see us continuing to expand, supported by the extensive resources of the Sumer Group, and it’s exciting for me to have the opportunity to lead our expert team into the next phase of RMT’s development.”

In his present role, Slater is responsible for ensuring audit and accounting services at RMT. He played a key role in establishing RMT Technology, a branch of the firm focused on technological solutions.

Pott, who will be stepping down, became the managing partner in RMT in 2010 and then took on the role of managing director a year later.

Sumer CEO Warren Mead said: “Since joining Sumer in 2023, RMT has grown rapidly, executed three mergers, and recruited dozens of highly talented colleagues.

“Mike has been a fantastic leader throughout, and I’ve no doubt Stephen will do a brilliant job as we continue our growth journey.”

Founded in 1954, RMT Accountants offers a suite of financial and business advisory services. The firm caters to a diverse clientele, ranging from local UK businesses to international enterprises.

Since becoming part of UK’s SME focused accountancy practice Sumer Group in 2023, RMT has focused on growth through acquisition.

In November 2024, RMT acquired KSA Group, a pre-insolvency business recovery solutions provider, marking its third deal since joining the Sumer Group.

The deal was aimed at bolstering RMT’s capabilities in the business recovery and insolvency sector.
