The International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) has issued a call for nominations for 22 vacancies on independent standard-setting boards in 2019.
The vacancies are spread across the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB), International Accounting Education Standards Board (IAESB), International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA), and International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (IPSASB).
IFAC also announced that IESBA chair Starvos Thomadakis has been re-appointed for a renewable one-year term effective 1 January 2018. IAESB chair Chris Austin has also been reappointed for a renewable one year term effective 1 January 2018. Additionally, the IAASB will be calling for a new chair in early 2018.
However, IFAC stated that as the Monitoring Group (of regulatory bodies and international financial institutions) is currently conducting a review of the standard setting processes with a consultation paper open until 9 February 2019, interested candidates were advised of the possibility of changes to the structure of IAASB, IAESB and IESBA.
Candidates can be nominated by one or more organisations or by an individual, and nominations are requested by 15 February 2018.
