Accounting professionals are overwhelmingly in favour of staying in the European Union (EU) according to a poll conducted by International Accounting Bulletin and sister publication The Accountant ahead of the UK Brexit referendum on 23 June.
Of respondents who are eligible to vote in the referendum, 72.2% said they were in favour of remaining in the EU against 9.1% who want to vote to leave and 18.2% who said they were undecided. Equally, among respondents who can’t vote in the referendum 86% are in favour of the UK remaining in the EU.
However opinions among respondents who are partners in an accounting firm and eligible to vote were more divided, with only 50% wanting to stay in the EU against 25% wanting to leave and 25% who said they wouldn’t vote.
Three-quarters (75%) of respondents who are qualified accountants and eligible to vote said they wanted to remain in the EU.
