Former Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) chief accountant James Kroeker has joined Deloitte US as deputy managing partner of the firm’s professional practice.
Kroeker has worked for the Big Four firm prior to taking the job at the SEC and his appointment is subject to Deloitte US board approval.
Deloitte US said Kroeker will serve in a leadership role reporting directly to the chief executive, "promoting high audit quality and serving as a senior consultative resource to help Deloitte engagement teams and clients reach high quality financial reporting conclusions in the public interest".
Kroeker served as the SEC’s chief accountant since January 2009, guiding the operations of the SEC’s office of the chief accountant and counseling the regulator on a wide range of accounting and auditing issues.
Kroeker left the SEC in June and shortly after the SEC further delayed its decision on whether or not the US is to adopt IFRS.
Deloitte US chief executive Joseph Echevarria said Kroeker has a unique perspective in accounting and auditing having deep technical knowledge, practical client service expertise, and experience as a regulator in his latest role at the SEC.
"Our top priority is audit quality and Jim’s contributions will be invaluable to the work we do serving audit committees, investors and the public interest," he said.
