Political parties have announced plans to achieve full pay equality in the UK by 2030, but the accountancy sector is lagging behind with a pay gap of over 20%, a survey has revealed
The results of the survey have exposed a shocking difference in the salaries between men and women working in the sector. Despite improving by 6% since 2018, the accountancy gender pay gap is still 22%. The slow improvement suggests it might take the sector longer to reach full pay equality than other UK industries.
SJD Accountancy (SJD) conducted the survey to find out the salaries of men and women working across different sectors in the UK.
The annual survey from the leading UK accountancy firm, which has created a gender pay gap tool for people to see the gaps in their own sector, is conducted with contract workers within a series of sectors. This includes finance, health, science, creative media, IT and retail.
Results from the 2019 survey reveal that only two sectors – engineering and pharmaceuticals – out of 14 major industries have seen a significant positive change in pay equality since 2018.
