Accountancy firm Bishop Fleming has welcomed Graham Charlton as a new tax partner at its Cheltenham office.

This move is part of the firm’s plans to expand its services both in the Gloucestershire region and on a national level.

Charlton was formerly a tax director at PwC.

In the new role, he will the firm’s lead the private equity tax division and focus on management advisory services for private equity-backed clients.

Bishop Fleming Corporate Tax partner and head Chris Walklett said: “Graham’s appointment is the next step in Bishop Fleming’s ambitious growth plans. The opening of our Cheltenham office in 2023, the recent expansion into the Midlands with a new Birmingham office, and subsequent investment in expanding our partner group are signals of our intent to expand the breadth of our capacity and capability with specialist expertise.

“Graham was the perfect candidate to strengthen our tax team presence and expand the range of specialist services we can offer to our private clients across the country.”

Charlton has been in the accountancy sector for more than 19 years.

His expertise lies in advising private equity-backed businesses through various stages of their lifecycle, including preparation for sale, navigating the sale process, and transitioning into the next phase of growth, the firm said.

Commenting on the new role, Charlton said: “I’m excited to join Bishop Fleming as part of its fast-growing team in Cheltenham at such a pivotal time for the firm.

“With its commitment to expanding its private equity tax offering and deal volumes expected to pick up significantly over the next calendar year, this is a fantastic opportunity to help shape a specialist service that delivers real value to private equity-backed businesses and their management teams.”

Charlton’s addition marks the second of four planned partner hires for Bishop Fleming in the first half of 2025.

This hire follows the addition of Stephen Patey, in January 2025, as an Audit Partner, in the same month that Bishop Fleming unveiled plans to establish a new office in Birmingham, England.
