M-Files, a knowledge work automation company, has named industry veteran Jay Bhatt as its new CEO.

Bhatt brings a wealth of experience, with a history of enhancing operational excellence and driving growth in software businesses.

His appointment aligns with the company’s strategic direction and recent financial developments.

Bhatt’s career includes leadership roles as CEO at Alfresco Software, Blackboard, and Progress Software, as well as a significant position at Autodesk, where he led the Architecture, Engineering and Construction division.

His expertise is expected to bolster M-Files’ market position and innovation efforts.

The CEO transition coincides with the completion of a majority recapitalisation led by Haveli Investments, a technology-focused private equity firm based in Austin, Texas, and Bregal Milestone, a European software private equity firm.

CrossParadigm Capital, an investment firm headed by Jay Bhatt, played a substantial participant in this financial transaction.

Antti Nivala, the former CEO of M-Files, will now focus on product innovation as the full-time chief innovation officer. Nivala’s new role will also include strategic input as the chairman of the board, ensuring continuity in M-Files’ vision and the advancement of its knowledge work automation platform.

The recapitalisation investment by Haveli Investments and Bregal Milestone was finalised on 29 November 2024.

Antti Nivala said: “Two decades ago, when we founded M-Files, the goal was to help knowledge workers to work smarter. I am proud of the work we have done to enable our customers to make real progress toward doing so.

“For our next phase of growth, we are now in an ideal position with the right team in place to capitalise on a vast market opportunity.”

Jay Bhatt said: “The ways we gather and deploy knowledge is evolving at an unprecedented pace, and M-Files is uniquely positioned to empower organisations to transform the way they manage, access, and leverage their information to boost their organisations’ productivity and drive informed decision-making.

“I credit Antti and the M-Files team for the blood, sweat, and tears that go into building a market leader, and I look forward to partnering with our new investors and leadership team to take M-Files to the next level.”
