Award-winning cloud accounting software provider, iplicit, has been chosen by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) to run its finances.
The orchestra – which performs to more than 170,000 people a year – selected iplicit’s cloud accounting software after a thorough research process, finding that iplicit’s solutions perfectly met its needs.
CBSO has been bringing great music to Birmingham for more than 100 years. As well as the 90-strong symphony orchestra, it has four choirs with more than 400 singers. It performs around the world, has released some 200 albums and has been heard by more than a billion people worldwide at the opening ceremony for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Commenting on this, CBSO director of finance and resources, Sal Munday, said: “CBSO went with iplicit because we could see the advantages over other options available to us.
“The software offers us exactly what we need in terms of functionality – with the option for faster and more efficient processing of our many (and often complex) transactions. For a small team, this was a big benefit.”
iplicit senior account executive, Luke McKenna, added: “We’re hugely excited that CBSO has joined the list of prestigious performing arts organisations that have chosen iplicit as the best product software for running their finance function. That list includes the Edinburgh International Festival, the Scottish Ballet and the National Theatre of Scotland.”

By GlobalDataMunday further said: “The finance team embraces this technology – for example (for the CBSO) using job costings for concerts and touring, appropriately allocating VAT for our partial exemption status, processing banking reconciliations and payments swiftly and easily, accounting for currency transactions, and reflecting the purchase ordering needs for budget holders and business users.”
iplicit, which brings cloud accounting software to medium-sized organisations, is on course for its sixth consecutive year of 100%+ growth in annual recurring revenue (ARR) and continues attracting top talent from Sage, Xero, IRIS and Access.
McKenna continued: “iplicit is ideal for handling the challenges faced by the finance teams of performing arts organisations – including multi-entity accounting, partial VAT, project costing and approval workflows for budget holders. We’re pleased to see the product being used by bodies whose work enriches the lives of so many people in the UK.”
Munday concluded: “iplicit also presented us with an established cloud-based solution, which is what we all wanted. At the many stages of planning meetings and discussions so far, we have found iplicit to be really engaging and professional, demonstrating an understanding of our business and organisation, and a willingness to work with us and listen to our needs.
“The team and I have been impressed with the flexibility and commitment to overseeing the move from our existing software with as few hiccups as possible.”
