HLB KMC West Africa managing partner Kader Kaneye and Raynatou Baro, head of the firm’s women initiative "Ladies Hub" have been selected as two of 500 young African leaders in the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), set up and supported by US President Barak Obama.
YALI was launched in 2010 by Obama, and according to the organisation its mission is "to support young African leaders as they spur growth and prosperity, strengthen democratic governance, and enhance peace and security across Africa."
There were 50,000 candidates for the 500 places, and those selected will go into the Washington Fellowship, YALI’s flagship programme, which includes six weeks studying in the US. It also includes a three-day "Washington Fellows Summit" hosted by Obama.
Speaking to the IAB, Kaneye described the economic opportunities in West Africa as enormous, and that HLB KMC West Africa has far-reaching ambitions in the region.
HLB International added KMC into its network in June 2013, and the firm operates out of a number of countries in the region.
