The International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) has selected Kevin Dancey as its next chief executive officer.
Dancey will succeed current IFAC chief executive officer Fayez Choudhury whose term expires at the end of the year.
Dancey has had previous experience with IFAC, serving as a member of the board from 2006 to 2012 during which time he helped with two constitutional reforms. He has a range of experience in the accountancy profession, previously leading CPA Canada and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. While leader of CPA, the Advanced Certificate in Accounting and Finance was launched which was the first nationally recognised intermediate accounting and finance certificate in Canada.
He has also had experience within the public sector, currently chairing Finance Canada’s Departmental Audit Committee. Dancey is also the national coordinator of the CPA Canada Martin Family Initiative, an organisation which helps Indigenous Canadian students access further education.
Dancey was the national tax practice leader for Coopers & Lybrand before its merger with Price Waterhouse in 1998 and was Canadian senior partner and CEO of PwC Canada from 2001 to 2005.
Commenting on his appointment, Dancey said: “To be selected as the next IFAC chief executive officer is a singular honour—a career capstone. Accountants positively influence the global economy in a multitude of ways. I’m looking forward to being a passionate advocate for the 3 million professional accountants represented by IFAC’s more than 175 member organisations in over 130 jurisdictions.”
