Canada’s professional services firm MNP has agreed to acquire 21 offices in Canada from accountancy and business advisory firm BDO.
The move is effective from 31 December 2024. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
MNP will acquire over 40 partners and 420 team members from BDO.
The acquisition encompasses select BDO locations in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and Prince Edward Island, provinces where both firms currently operate.
MNP board chairman and CEO Jason Tuffs said the transaction reflects MNP’s commitment to being ‘national in scope and local in focus’.
Tuffs said: “With the addition of the new offices we will have nearly 150 offices coast-to-coast, including in the largest urban centres, mid-sized cities, and the smaller rural cities and towns that we find across all provinces.

BDO CEO Bruno Suppa indicated that the decision for the transaction was made after careful consideration and is seen as “an important step into the future.”
Suppa said: “As we prepare for 2025 and beyond, our priority is modernising our firm to elevate the delivery of integrated solutions across our expansive network of 80+ offices nationally.
“In working with the team at MNP we have developed a supportive transition plan for our team and clients.”
The offices involved in the transaction include locations from Collingwood to Wiarton, with BDO’s Personal Debt Solutions services in these areas remaining unaffected.
In October 2024, BDO announced the promotion of over 2,440 staff members, effective from 1 November 2024.
These promotions have occurred across various departments, including central operations, audit, tax, deals, and consulting, risk, and outsourcing teams, with the audit practice alone seeing over 1,300 promotions and the tax team more than 340.
