Representatives from caba, the occupational charity for ICAEW members and their families, met with new ICAEW CEO Alan Vallance to develop the two organisations’ partnership and enhance the support available to the ICAEW community.

Vallance met with senior figures from caba to discuss the continuation and further development of support services available to ICAEW members.

ICAEW and caba have continued to work together to highlight caba’s services to members, including the mental health support services, which have seen an increase in calls this year. Overall, almost 1,200 ICAEW members requested direct support from caba this year, whilst over 28,000 people accessed tools, information and advice from its website.

On average, caba provided direct support to two ICAEW members every single day in the first half of the year. It was also recently reported in a survey conducted by caba during the pandemic that over three quarters of respondents said they believed that stress and poor mental health were a problem within the profession.

ICAEW members can access caba’s free and confidential services including practical, emotional, or financial tools, to help them whatever the circumstances they might be experiencing.

Commenting on this, caba CEO, Cristian Holmes, said: “The increase in individuals reaching out for support, particularly mental health is a reminder of how our services are more important than ever. It’s also a positive indicator that accountants are increasingly aware of their wellbeing and more open to asking for support.
